EM2271A Specifications:
The upgraded EM2271.
It can measure the Fe & NFe.
Accuracy improved 10, measurement range extended,
resolution higher, better cost-efficiency.
For measurements in AUTO test mode and on object with steel substrate
±(10% of reading + 0.10mm),
most car is made of steel, and, if you get result of 0.00mm or 0.01mm , it is under normal
condition, acceptable error, because most car paint thickness is 0.1-0.15mm.
Operating Instruction:
1. Hold the tester and make sure that it is as least 20cm away from the object to be tested and other objects. Then press the “TEST” button to turn on the tester.”–“appear on the display and flashed, meanwhile the unit “mm” appear.
2. Press the “UNIT” button to select desired unit – mm or mil.
3. Place the tester’s probe perpendicularly on the surface to be tested, the display will show the coating thickness.
*If the display shows”–“,it means that the tester does not detect any iron, steel or aluminum substrate.
*If the display shows”OL”,it means that the coating thickness exceeds the tester’s measuring range.
*If the display shows”- 0″,it means that the probe has wear or the substrate under the coatings may be other kind of metal other than iron, steel or aluminum.
4. When you make measurement, the reading will remain on the display if you move quickly the tester away from the surface under test; and you can press the “TEST” button to delete this reading, the display will show “–”
5. If you do not press any button and the tester does not detect the presence of steel, iron or aluminum for about 30 seconds, the tester will turn off automatically. If you want to turn off the tester manually, press and hold down the “TEST” button for more than about 1 second.
I'm sure it's not as accurate as high dollar paint gauges, but it does seem to work and it does show a difference in body panels with factory paint vs those that have been repainted.
Works good, easy to use. Detected repair on my vehicle rear door very accurately
It is working fine, definitely worth more what I paid for it
Perfect. It work just fine for my detail business.
I love the accuracy of this product
It seems to be working great so far over the past month. We use it to do body inspections and it seems to be fairly accurate once calibrated. We tested with our sister dealers much more expensive unit and it was very close if not dead on on every panel we tested.
I had no issues with it working straight out of the box. It's very simple to use even though I've never used one ever before. It works so well my car detailer is going to be borrowing it and maybe even purchasing his own. Shipping was also fast and received on time.
This device is dead simple to use and is certainly accurate enough for me. My wife's Honda had some low-quality paint work done to it and I had burned through the clearcoat trying to fix it. After sanding and repainting it, I used this device to make sure I didn't do that again! I was able to remove nearly all of the orange peel, with no fear of burning through the clearcoat or paint. It looks great and she is very pleased. It is very helpful to be able to compare my paint job against "factory" paint thickness. The manufacturer thickness guide included with the instructions is very helpful. I will use this tool for my own Toyota, which has single-stage paint. The accuracy and ease of use of this tool have been a big help and will give me real peace of mind from now on.
Very helpful tool! Bought it for my relative who has an auto shop, as a present. He is very pleased with it. Very detail instruction and very easy to set up and use. He said he’ll buy more for his shop because he already found that one guy tried “keep silent” about extra work on vehicle his tried to sell to my relative. Here as some pictures of vehicle; its front cover with some protective wrap and you can see how this tool easily showed the difference. Very good tool!!!
Works great have tried it on multiple surfaces and is accurate and it beats spending $500 on a high end device that will tell you pretty much the same.
A good value - works well with accurate. I tested in on some paint panels I personally did, and it passed every test.
Great value and works well enough for the diy detailer. I like that the instructions list auto manufacturer paint thickness values as reference.
this tool is good enough when checking for bondo on cars
We use it in the Auto Recycling business to qualify our body parts to check for paint thickness or prior repairs. Very simple and easy to use. I can walk around an entire vehicle and spot check each panel in under a minute. Have only had ours for just a few months but it has been a great help for us.
Measuring paint on pipe. It is very easy to use
Very easy to use. Good for using when doing paint correction and to tell if the vehicle has been repainted.
I use this product for checking paint before a paint correction and it works wonderfully.
Easy to use and product worked as advertised.
Excellent product. It only took me few minutes to learn how to use. Very accurate and consistent measurements on both Fe and non-Fe surfaces after calibration. Quick readings, clear instructions, large display with backlight. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a PROFESSIONAL grade device for every day use.
I recently bought an older MB that needed a fairly DEEP paint correction to remove some heavy scratches and swirls. But of course I didn't want to risk going TOO deep, all the way through the clear-coat. So I bought this meter and measured the thickness everywhere I was about to compound. I also measured the thickness inside the door jam and trunk lid (where the clear coat is very thin) to get an idea of how far I could go. The job turned out very well (nearly perfect) and I still have enough clear coat remaining for looks and UV protection. Subsequently, I applied a ceramic coating for more protection, and it looks great. Anyway, I found this meter accurate (based upon the paint thickness samples provided), easy to use, and good value when compared to similar products.
So far it has been working great. Use it often when detailing my cars to make sure I’m not taking too much clear coat off. I keep checking against the stands they provided and always registers within the expected range. Super easy to use too, turn on and press down on the paint you want to measure. Well worth the money and much cheaper than a paint job on a car!
I've just received the gauge and after some testing it appears to be very consistent in terms of accuracy. I also like the fact that it automatically detects materials: Fe vs Al. Now the bad. The entire left side of my vehicle was repainted, although it looks perfect. Ten years ago when I was buying the car I had zero clue. What a bummer! You should definitely buy or borrow a paint gauge if you are in search for a pre-owned vehicle.
Just received this unit today. The calibration process was easy and fast. I used the Fe plate included, out the box, unit displayed “0”, use the transparent piece and the unit displayed (had it set to mils), the number displayed was within the tolerances!! Finally a meter I can depend on. I had a Cem-156, had to sample 4 to 5 times to get zero set. When I needed it, i had to recalibrate. it was useless. I will definitely recommend this product. They even include a list of car manufacturers with the range in mils of the paint. It’s nice to see your vehicle in the target range. I tested it on my 2016 Toyota Sequoia. I finally have a great working paint meter.
The device is super easy to use and measures very precisely. The areas on my own vehicle that were repainted are very clearly visible, and the areas that have not been repainted are also easy to see. The measurements are extremely precise and you can rely on them. I am totally satisfied. I Recommend!
I bought this tool for buffing and paint correction to ensure there was adequate paint to work with. Excellent to have such reassurance before starting. A mate was also looking at a classic car to buy but the gauge clearly showed there was no metal behind many areas and extremely thick bog everywhere so he was able to walk away from a serious mistake. I love the tool. Very good quality .
