This sifter was nice to have, but a little hard to turn the handle due to it hitting the screen in the bottom of it. Had a few adjustment and it is working OK now
I grew up using a sifter like this one. I was given one you pull a handle and I hated it. So I went looking and found this one. Love it!
Works beautifully, and there are not two screens for stuff to get caught in. Some people have complained about it rusting - well, it's not stainless, so you do have to be careful. Here's what I do: after I wash/rinse it, shake it to get the big drops of water off, then lay it on its side so that air can flow through the mesh, drying more effectively than if it were standing. I live in the deep South, and we have lots of humidity, and my sifter dries just fine and with no rust.
Totally upped my sauce game after reading about tamis' in Thomas Keller's French Laundry cookbook, where chefs pass sauces through fine mesh many times before serving. Makes sauces and purees unbelievably silky and aerated. Incredible mashed potatoes.
Love it! I had an old one from my grandmother, which worked fine, and it some how was thrown out when I moved.
This 5-cup sifter is perfect. I easily put all my dry ingredients into the sifter and with the easy turning knob, quickly sift everything into my wet ingredients. Previously I had a sifter that I was suppose to squeeze the handle to turn the the dry ingredients through. It was so slow that I would end up banging the sifter against my hand to speed things up. Love, love this sifter. Cleaning involves a quick rinse off, and wipe of a towel.
This is extremely cute and functional! I opted for the smaller size since I already have way more kitchen gadgets then I can fit in my kitchen. It quickly sifts a cup of flour, and the opening at the bottom is small, so you don’t need to have this over a very large bowl/container. It’s faster than using one of my mesh strainers, and I don’t have issues with static (which I was getting from the strainers). It’s easy to fill, so while a larger size might be nice, this works just fine for the job. So far it’s holding up well and I haven’t had an issue with rust, but I do make sure to dry it after I wash it. I really like this and would recommend it.
I love little guy. It's perfect for small jobs like cocoa. lt's easy to use and clean.
I bought the new kind of sifter and it was terrible. I’m thrilled with this more traditional sifter, the kind I’ve always used. It works so much better.
The crank sifter is great..had one that you squeeze the handle and powder sugar just clogs in it. So glad I could find this type again
Large bowl. Easy to use.
Just like grandmas...except smaller...and a little flimsier. So far it hasn't rusted. I like that it's small because I'd rather sift in smaller batches than have a big sifter taking up lots of space in my drawer. I don't mind that it doesn't feel as solid, nothing is anymore, and it's not expensive. The simple, basic design should make for a durable sifter that lasts a long time assuming it doesn't rust. When will they start putting air dryers in dish washers? Someone please invent one.
I have been looking for a good flower sifter and this one is reasonably priced and very sturdy. I have been baking a lot and it will get plenty of use. The carrier (Jasmine ) who brought it to my apartment building was exceptional. She actually called my apartment to let me know it had arrived while others just leave it anywhere in the building foyer. I especially appreciated that. Thanks again, Jasmine.
Really makes a difference in my baking once I actually started sifting the dry ingredients as instructed. This item arrived in perfect condition and works exactly as specified.
We make pumpkin rolls as Christmas presents every yearfor many years. We always had issues sifting the confectioners sugar onto the tea towel to wrap the cakes in while waiting for them to cool. With this new sifter you can get a much better coverage without getting the thick/thin spots in your preparation. It does require a little practice to figure out the speed atwhich you want to sift, but once you have mastered that it is great. Clean up of this tool was easy, and anyone that is still using old fashioned recipes would find it helpful for sifting flour, sugar, corn meal etc.
This is a replacement sifter and is 98% identical to the one I had for over 30 years. I love the the size and ease of use. Plus, it isn’t really heavy, so to me that is my plus cause when you have it full of flour it is easy to hold & sift..
I got the mesh sifter, and am tentatively thrilled. I intend to use it for sifting whole wheat flour into white flour, and the mesh seems more than adequate for this task. It is a very fine mesh, which makes it a killer deal at this price point.
This item replaces a much older sifter of the same type, which for some reason was getting hard to clean: the flour tended to stick to it. No such problem with this one! It's clean and easy. Now we'll see if it's as durable and long-lasting as the old one. I'm optimistic.
I used this to sift flour and cocoa. The mesh part has started to rust it seems, or at least has lost its luster. Be careful not to bend the cylinder as that will affect how the "bar" pushes the flour against the mesh and make an annoying squeaky noise. It's easy to put back into shape, though. Works as expected. Would purchase again.
I love this for when I make French Macarons. It shifts easily and doesn’t get stuck. Great product. If I needed two I’d buy another. I also like that it’s not too big or too small.
I love this sifter. I had it in the past, but lost everything in a fire. I missed it last year at this time while baking. I decided to get another one to make this year's baking easier. It holds 5 cups. You can put all your flour, sugar and spices together and sift all at once.
I've been wanting a sifter with a crank handle for years and this one is it! Well crafted, easy to use and clean and the size is just right for everyday baking. The handle turns with ease and the bail makes perfect contact with the screen and I've experienced no jamming as reported in some reviews.
Actually Mom made some fantastic cakes, pies and flop overs...they were big. Ya had to flop em. I always wanted one for my own kitchen. Now i have one.
I got this for my wife because she has been using one she got from her mother 40 plus years ago. This one doesn't have a hole in the screen so works much better.
Perfect for small patches of flour etc. type mixing. Good grip on handle and easy turning. Great to have an extra shifter during busy baking season.
